Community is fundamental to Montessori— students, staff, and families all benefit from spending time together, building the relationships that let kids regulate, take risks, and make mistakes— in essence, to explore and learn. That’s why MVCS kicks off the school year with a Community Cookout. Returning families reconnect after summer break, new families are welcomed to the community, and together we start a new year.

Open House at MVCS lets families experience the learning space and connect with their child's daily experience; hands-on work with the materials and guided reflection is also a part of this process

family fridayS

Involving families in their children’s education is a vital element of Montessori. Family Fridays are a fall and spring MVCS tradition that lets our students present “works” to their families and to guide them through their classrooms- both indoor and out. Afterwards, families meet in the woods to connect and play!

winter solstice

The all school Winter Solstice Celebration is an annual MVCS tradition that brings together our entire community of students, staff, families, and friends. The longest night of the year, the winter solstice celebrates the return of the sun, as the earth continues its orbit around the sun, bringing longer days and shorter nights.

Exhibition is a showcase of classroom “big works,” where students create displays and interactive exhibits to share with their families.

ice cream social

Our MVCS end-of-year tradition is held on the last day of school after eighth grade graduation. This final event brings us together one last time as a community before our summer break to celebrate the year we have spent together learning and growing!
