Parent Understanding *

As a nature based program using the Montessori philosophy, we wish to ensure that parents understand and embrace some of the practical points of our school. Please read the points, check the required boxes, and sign this document to indicate your agreement.

The school will use the Montessori philosophy, pedagogy, didactic materials, use the American Montessori Society Code of Ethics, and employ Montessori certified teachers and those in training.

The school will engage in a nature based and adventure program. Students will have the opportunity to hike, explore, and investigate the outdoors (with supervision). The students will need a change of clothes on hand, proper outdoor gear for all weather, and understanding parents for the possibility of dirty children.

The school will use a mastery approach for evaluations. Parents will receive 3 progress reports a year indicating what the student is studying and what has been mastered in accordance with the child’s age. Two parent – teacher conferences will be held yearly.

The school considers community an important part of our program. To this end, each family is asked to volunteer ten (10) hour per year per child. We will provide many different types of opportunities that fit parents’ talents and time restraints.

The school will work with families traveling from all the different towns to assemble carpools. The school does not provide transportation.

School is free to all students from 8:15 am – 2:45 pm with a grace period between 7:45 am-3:00 pm. The school operates fee based after school and summer programs. Our hours will be 7:45 am – 5:00 pm.

Students will bring their own healthy lunches from home. Parents will take turns providing group snacks for their child’s class. (We will work with the Federal Free/Reduced Lunch Program.)
