Week 3
9/11 Tribute and Discussion
Loons and Black Bears gathered Thursday morning to discuss the events of 9/11 and work together to understand the tragedy and the meaning behind the tragic day and why we remember it.
Math:
4th: Defined and identified place value as well as word, standard and expanded form of numbers.
5th: Reviewed place value, as well as word, standard and expanded form, and began comparing numbers.
6th: Reviewed and created a life size version of a number line using negatives, fractions and decimals.
Practicing multiplication facts at home will help support your Black Bear at school!
ELA:
Studied brain webs and plot diagrams as an introduction to the story writing process.
Many Black Bears entered into the Young Writer's contest for a chance to win $100 and have their work published!
Culture Studies:
We had our first formal lesson on the geography and beginnings of colonial America.
In our survival game, we have established which tribes represent the north and south, along with the resources they are flourishing in as well as lacking in. Each week, a new challenge and/or law will be proposed that changes the dynamic of the colonies and tribes!
Science:
We are studying the water cycle! Students will be creating their own model of the water cycle.
STEM:
Began planning our first long term stem activity to create mini-models of the Big T, the settings from our bool study The One and Only Ivan
Art:
Further developing our art folders while putting our own creative spins on them! They're looking very neat!
Music:
Music class began and students took a survey on the different types of music they enjoy,
